Pope Benedict XVI condemned the the Holocaust as being inspired by "the hatred of a blind ideology", 2 days after he declared controversial wartime pontiff Pius XII "venerable." The Vatican sparked anger amongst the Jewish community on Saturday with its moves to put Pius closer to sainthood.

The Catholic Church has long argued that Pius XII (1939 to 1958), saved many Jews who were hidden away in religious institutions, and that his silence was born out of a wish to avoid aggravating their situation.

IRAN DEAL PUTS TURKEY AT ODDS WITH NATO

Turkey has run afoul of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the United States as a result of its defense of Iran's nuclear program and recent agreements on multi-billion dollar projects with Tehran, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Despite being a member of NATO, Turkey has backed Iran's nuclear program and plans to expand dramatically its economic and trade relationship with Iran in the face of existing international sanctions.

BIBI COURTS LIVNI

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu held a 90 minute session of talks with former Foreign Minister Livni as he tried to court the floundering opposition Kadima Party into his coalition.

The party formed out of a split in the Likud Party in late 2005, with Ariel Sharon's faction forming Kadima and Netanyahu's remaining in control of Likud.

Upon his receiving this extraordinary power to strip away from anyone he so chooses their very "personhood", Obama wasted no time in "gathering the dark forces" he will need to finalize the destruction of all those he deems opposed to him by issuing an unprecedented Executive Order [Executive Order 13524/US Federal Register/Vol.74, No. 243/Monday, December 21, 2009/Presidential Documents 67803] granting unlimited power to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to not only begin arresting American citizens and sending them to overseas prison camps, but also giving to them "unconditional immunity" from all US laws.

ANALYSIS OF THE OBAMA INTERPOL ORDER

So, here's the bottom line: INTERPOL has just been granted complete and utter "diplomatic immunity" within the borders of the United States.

The Vatican has made it easier for Anglicans to join the Catholic Church, responding to the disillusionment of some Anglicans over the election of openly gay bishops and the blessing of same-sex unions.

Pope Benedict XVI approved a new church provision that will allow Anglicans to convert while maintaining many of their distinctive spiritual and liturgical traditions, Cardinal William Levada, the Vatican's chief doctrinal official, told a news conference today.

Perfect storm?

The real reason for more troops in Afghanistan

Financially crippled due to our continued wars for empire and the printing of billions of new dollars to repay political cronies in the financial world has left us in a precarious position in Afghanistan.

Taliban targeting India?

The Pakistani Taliban, apparently aided by al-Qaida elements, may have decided to launch an all-out effort to take over the state of Pakistan and use it as a base to begin an offensive against Indian-administered Kashmir, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

According to security experts, Pakistan appears to be unraveling, giving impetus to the apparent decision by the militants to undertake the effort to assume command in Pakistan and use it as a base to launch attacks against India and take over Kashmir.

War between India and China?

India has been vied for as an ally in the "Great Game" that is underway, once again.

This round of the "Great Game" is, however, being played under a far broader spectrum than the one played between Britain and Czarist Russia.

In question is the Indian power relationship with 2 geo-political entities: the first is the "Periphery" and the second is "Eurasia."

The threat of a nuclear war between China and India is real in the words of the Indian military, but what is important to realize is that such a confrontation is part of a much larger series of wars or a wider struggle between the powers of Eurasia and the nations of the Periphery, led by the United States.

Following Sunday's massive suicide bombing in Iran's border province of Sistan-Balochistan, Iran's parliament is reportedly expressing consensus that retaliation against Jundallah could lead to launch military operations on the Pakistani side of the border.

The Q-Files headquarters received a phone call from a top executive within one of the largest Banking Corporations in the US.

This source was highly concerned about specific information their Bank Corporation had received regarding probable attacks upon US cities by terrorists of jihaddist orientation using nuclear devices which may already be in place or that may be delivered by kamikaze style attacks via small aircraft upon centralized target locations of those cities.

Independent from the Banking source, Q-files headquarters received a similar warning about potential nuclear device attacks upon US cities via telephone approximately an hour after the Banking source had called.

On July 4, just days before his social encyclical is set to be released, Pope Benedict XVI sent a letter regarding the upcoming G8 meeting to the Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi.

In his letter, he called for renewed international efforts to work together in order "to face current challenges" in front of mankind today.

Benedict concluded his letter by encouraging the G8 members to see this meeting as an invitation "to unite to face current challenges, which require humankind to make decisive choices concerning the very destiny of man, intimately connected with that of creation."

NEW ENCYCLICAL ASKS US TO RE-EXAMINE FOUNDATION OF ECONOMY

With the release of Pope Benedict XVI's encyclical just days away, the head of the Knights of Columbus is warning people not to ask how the Pope's teaching will validate their world view but how their views should change in response to the document.

The Supreme Knight states that those in positions of economic influence shold take notice of "Caritas in Veritate."

"The world deserves a market economy with a conscience. We should bear in mind that Pope Benedict XVI in a 1985 paper criticized Marxism heavily for being too 'deterministic' and warned that market economies risked collapse if they too excluded or ignored the ethical component of individual decision making. Certainly, he has been proven correct, and thus all of us, and especially those in position of economic leadership, should certainly take notice of this encyclical."

B16: STRONG LINKS BETWEEN LIFE ISSUES AND SOCIAL ETHICS

In his first social encyclical Caritas in Veritate (Love in Truth), Pope Benedict XVI made clear that social issues cannot be disconnected from the defense of life from the moment of conception to its natural end, and that the defense of the right to life cannot be compromised on when seeking common ground on other social issues.

B16 CALLS FOR "GOD-CENTERED" GLOBAL ECONOMY

Pope Benedict XVI today called for reforming the United Nations and establishing a "true world political authority" with "real teeth" to manage the global economy with God-centered ethics.

In his 3rd encyclical, the pope says such an authority is urgently needed to end the current worldwide financial crisis.

It should "revive" damaged economies, reach toward "disarmament, food security and peace," protect the environment and "regulate migration."

The encyclical, Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth) is a theologically dense explication of Catholic social teaching that draws heavily from earlier popes -- particularly PaulVI's critique of capitalism 42 years ago.

And echoing his predecessor John Paul II, Benedict says: "every economic decision has a moral consequence."

B16 MESSAGE SEEKS "GLOBAL AUTHORITY" FOR ECONOMY

Pope Benedict today called for a "world political authority" to manage the global economy and for more government regulation of national economies to pull the world out of the current crisis and avoid a repeat.

Parts of the encyclical appeared bound to upset conservatives because of its underlying rejection of unbridled capitalism and unregulated market forces, which he said had led to "thoroughly destructive" abuse of the system.

CARITAS IN VERITATE (full text)

Charity is at the heart of the Church's social doctrine.

Every responsibility and every commitment spelt out by that doctrine is derived from charity which, according to the teaching of Jesus, is the synthesis of the entire Law.

"Caritas in veritate" is the principle around which the Church's social doctrine turns, a principle that takes on practical form in the criteria that govern moral action.

I would like to consider two of these in particular, of special relevance to the commitment to development in an increasingly globalized society: justice and the common good.

The Church does not have technical solutions to offer and does not claim "to interfere in any way in the politics of States."

She does, however, have a mission of truth to accomplish, in every time and circumstance, for a society that is attuned to man, to his dignity, to his vocation.

Without truth, it is easy to fall into an empiricist and sceptical view of life, incapable of rising to the level of praxis because of a lack of interest in grasping the values — sometimes even the meanings — with which to judge and direct it.

Fidelity to man requires fidelity to the truth, which alone is the guarantee of freedom (cf. Jn 8:32) and of the possibility of integral human development.

For this reason the Church searches for truth, proclaims it tirelessly and recognizes it wherever it is manifested. This mission of truth is something that the Church can never renounce.

Her social doctrine is a particular dimension of this proclamation: it is a service to the truth which sets us free.

Open to the truth, from whichever branch of knowledge it comes, the Church's social doctrine receives it, assembles into a unity the fragments in which it is often found, and mediates it within the constantly changing life-patterns of the society of peoples and nations...

I've always said that the social doctrines of the Catholic church are quite good, and that society would be much better if it followed them. (And this is why people will love it -- and hate the 2 witnesses that will be preaching against it.)

By strengthening national parliaments vis-a-vis the EU, Germany's highest court has ENDED THE DREAM OF A "UNITED STATES OF EUROPE".

And that's good news for Eastern European countries, who often feel bullied by Germany, the alliance's heavyweight.

RULING "A HUGE SUCCESS"

Christian Social Union politician Peter Gauweiler led the challenge to the Lisbon Treaty before Germany's highest court.

The court rejected most of the petition, but in an interview with Spiegel Online, Gauweiler explains why he still thinks the ruling is good for Germany.

TOP COURT ISSUES NATIONALIST RULING ON EU

The Federal Constitutional Court (BVG) passed a judgment last Tuesday, which will have sweeping repercussions for the future development of Europe.

The court in Karlsruhe laid down narrow limits for the powers of the European Union and stipulated that, on all important questions, the final word rests with the nation state, i.e., the 2 chambers of the German parliament and the court itself.

The court questioned the democratic legitimacy of the European parliament and denied the right of the European Court of Justice to make final judgments.

The judges in Karlsruhe even recommend withdrawal from the EU, should it persist in extending its rights of sovereignty.

According to the BVG judgment, "in the worst case, Germany must refuse its further participation in the European Union."

The constitutional court judgment represents an about turn in Germany's European policy. Now national interests have openly come to the fore.

The result of the judgment will be an intensification of national conflicts throughout Europe.

If Germany, as the EU's largest member, grants highest priority to its national interests then the other 26 EU members are bound to follow suit.

BRUSSELS PUT FIRMLY IN THE BACK SEAT

Last week's ruling by the Constitutional Court, coupled with demands by the Christian Social Union for changes to the constitution, may not only jeopardize Berlin's schedule for the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

The ruling also threatens future steps toward European integration.

The CSU parliamentary group aims to approve an entire catalog of demands at a party meeting in the former Benedictine monastery of Kloster Banz in mid-July.

The Bavarians even want to push through a number of changes to the German constitution.

They are now demanding a solution that gives "maximum" parliamentary influence over future EU policy.

It's a political bombshell that could torpedo the German government's Lisbon rescue concept.

In addition to undermining the effectiveness of Germany's ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, this could tip the scales for the other European countries that have yet to ratify -- namely Ireland, Poland and the Czech Republic.

The Bavarians' "Gauweiler" tactics only provide an inkling of the inner political strife that is in store for Germany.

Despite the premature cries of triumph among staunch EU supporters in the ruling coalition and in Brussels, last Tuesday's ruling on the Lisbon Treaty will yet unleash rage and tears of frustration.

According to the judges, Germany's future lies not in "a united Europe" -- but rather in Germany.

There will be "no European state under the provisions of the German constitution." And Schorkopf summarizes the ruling in one sentence: "The European Union is a contract-based association of sovereign states, and as such, takes a political back seat."

LISBON TREATY RATIFICATION ENDAGERED BY CSU DEMANDS

Germany's drive towards ratifying the EU's reforming Lisbon Treaty may have one more obstacle to overcome after Chancellor Merkel's conservative sister party in Bavaria demanded more concessions for Berlin.

Germany's Constitutional Court ruled that the Lisbon Treaty was compatible with the country's constitution, but said some domestic laws needed tweaking before the treaty could be formally ratified.

But the Christian Social Union of Bavaria said they wanted even greater rights for the Bundestag and Bundesrat - the lower and upper houses of parliament respectively - enshrined in Germany's constitution.

The party also called for parliament to be enabled to take part in government decisions on EU matters, and wants the Constitutional Court to have the final word on interpreting the Lisbon Treaty.

The Minister of State for Europe at the German Foreign Office warned the CSU against endangering the treaty's ratification schedule.

Merkel had said the necessary laws would be amended and the treaty passed before the September 27 federal election, but the latest demands from the CSU could prolong the ratification process.

So step back and look at the bigger picture: last week, the court makes its decision, and today, the Bavarian B16 issues his encyclical on how the economy should be run according to the principles of the Catholic Social Doctrine -- which is basically how Germany, and especially Bavaria, already runs its economy...]

No conspiracy charge by feds against Madoff is covering up links to domestic and foreign intelligence.

WMR spoke to a former close aide to Madoff who related how he handled a number of transactions personally for Madoff.

The source said that Madoff was running a special type of "pump and dump" scheme.

The source said Madoff would "pump money out of the system and dump it out to another place." When asked what that "other place" was, the source replied: "Israel."

The source believes that no conspiracy charges were brought by the federal government against Madoff because it is the government and not necessarily Madoff that is trying to protect his "network and superiors."

NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO KEEP MATRIX RUNNING

The revelations that Goldman Sachs is manipulating the market and that the Federal Reserve banks are private – not government - institutions are coming out now because the US is going broke, and doesn't have enough money to to keep the matrix running.

Indeed, Goldman is probably the key player on the plunge protection team and similar government schemes to manipulate the markets.

So the fact that Goldman's shenanigans are starting to leak out – despite the government's best efforts to keep the whole enchilada secret – is dramatic.

THE UNEMPLOYMENT TIMEBOMB IS QUIETLY TICKING

One dog has yet to bark in this long winding crisis.

Beyond riots in Athens and a Baltic bust-up, we have not seen evidence of bitter political protest as the slump eats away at the legitimacy of governing elites in North America, Europe, and Japan.

It may just be a matter of time. A deep purge of labour is yet to come.

The shocker last week was not just that the US lost 467,000 jobs in May, but also that time worked fell 6.9% from a year earlier, dropping to 33 hours a week.

"At no time in the 1990 or 2001 recessions did we ever come close to seeing such a detonating jobs figure," said David Rosenberg. "We have lost a record 9 million full-time jobs this cycle."

The Centre for Labour Market Studies in Boston says US unemployment is now 18.2%, counting the old-fashioned way.

The reason why this does not "feel" like the 1930s is that we tend to compress the chronology of the Depression.

It takes time for people to deplete their savings and sink into destitution.

The OECD expects unemployment to reach 57 million in the rich countries by the end of next year.

We are moving into Phase II of the Great Unwinding. It may be time to put away our texts of Keynes, Friedman, and Fisher, so useful for Phase 1, and start studying what happened to society when global unemployment went haywire in 1932.

THE CHALLENGES FACING THE G8

The G8 circus has moved half way round the world - from Japan last year to Italy now.

The economic problems they have to confront have moved just about as far.

A year on as they get together at L'Aquila, and it is more than a slowdown.

In fact it was just 2 months after the Hokkaido summit that the financial crisis took on a new and more menacing form, with the implosion of the investment bank Lehman Brothers.

The result is that the world economy is likely to contract this year for the first time in the post-war era.

LITTLE REAL PROGRESS EXPECTED IN L'AQUILA

The leaders of the Group of Eight leading industrial nations will meet in the earthquake-hit Italian town of L'Aquila from Wednesday to discuss the global financial crisis and climate change.

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet has praised the USA's commitment to the strong dollar as several world powers including France and Russia call for a fresh debate on the global currency system ahead of this week's G8 summit of leaders in Italy.

The result of such an action would be the worst thing which China could do to itself and its people.

That terrible mistake, fortunately only proposed by the PBOC, but not yet implemented, is to be understood as a result of manipulation of relevant officials in China, Russia, and other nations by British sources.

THE SUN FINALLY HAS SPOTS

After one of the longest sunspot droughts in modern times, solar activity picked up quickly over the weekend.

A new group of sunspots developed, and while not dramatic by historic standards, the spots were the most significant in many months.

SHOULD LINKING BE ILLEGAL?

In a misguided attempt to aid newspapers, one of America's most influential judges is suggesting a new copyright law.

One of America's most influential conservative judges, Richard Posner, has proposed a ban on linking to online content without permission.

The idea, he said in a blog post last week, is to prevent aggregators and bloggers from linking to newspaper websites without paying.

And Posner, who sits on the 7th circuit court of appeals in Chicago, has a way of getting his way.

"The degree of parasitism is striking in the case of those blogs that provide their readers with links to newspaper articles. The links enable the audience to read the articles without buying the newspaper."

Posner comes across as willfully blind to the ways in which bloggers and aggregators actually drive traffic to news sites, resulting in more readers seeing their content and, thus, their advertising.

Thinking outside the box...

[WAR note: Well, I've been doing some thinking 'n contemplating.

The landlords are gone for the summer and I'm going to be doing a lot of work around here each day -- with an early start before it gets too hot.

So with that -- and Ecclesiastes 3:8 in mind ("There is...a time for WAR" and a time for no WAR.) -- I've decided to call a temporary cease-fire and take a summer sabbatical -- even though this might turn out to be the summer-from-hell on the world scene.

I might periodically post something of interest, post an issue if there's a lot of rain to keep me from working, or start it back up if news events call for it.

DOCUMENT NAMES P12 AS CO-CONSPIRATOR AGAINST HITLER

A foundation that promotes interreligious dialogue is publishing new documents from Germany that gives evidence of Pope Pius XII's work against Hitler during WW2.

Gary Krupp, president of the New York-based Pave the Way Foundation, affirmed this Sunday that despite accusations of being "pro-Hitler," the Pontiff was actively opposing the Nazi leader.

This evidence, the statement asserted, "seems to confirm that Pope Pius XII was an active enemy of Adolph Hitler."

Krupp explained that the Pope was "named as a co-conspirator in the assassination attempt on Hitler's life of July 20, 1944."

COURT TO RULE ON SUNDAY SHOPPING IN BERLIN

The Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe has opened a hearing into whether allowing shops to open 10 Sundays of the year in Berlin is in line with the country's law governing religious freedom.

Unlike in some other European countries, Sunday shopping has long been taboo in Germany. In keeping with Article 140 of the Basic Law, Sundays and holidays are designated as "rest" days.

OBAMA AND THE MILITARY'S MORAL DILEMMA

There is now reasonable doubt that Barack Obama meets the Constitution's requirement of "natural born" citizenship.

Until proof of US citizenship is presented beyond a reasonable doubt, it is reasonable to say that Obama is probably a usurper to the office of President.

Given doubts about Obama's natural born citizen status, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have a moral duty to investigate Obama's qualifications to be President.

They must then report their findings to those under their command and the American people.

This is not an issue of legitimate succession to office of Commander-in-Chief, but an issue of usurpation.

The moral duty here for military officers is clear: Demand proof, or serve without honor, or resign.

SC GOVERNOR'S SUV FOUND AT AIRPORT

The mystery into Mark Sanford's 6-day disappearance deepened Tuesday night as new evidence cast further doubt onto the governor's "hiking" alibi.

CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby tracked down Sanford's state-issued black Chevy Suburban at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

That information would seem to further contradict Sanford's spokesman's claim that the governor spent the weekend hiking along the Appalachian Trail — which is roughly a 2 hour drive north of Atlanta.

SC GOVERNOR LOOKING TO SECEDE WITH RUSSIAN HELP??

Russian Foreign Ministry sources are reporting to President Medvedev that the Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, arrived at Russia's Ottawa Embassy seeking 'immediate assistance and protection' for his plan to succeed from the United States over what he states is the 'planned annihilation of his country' by a 'criminal cabal' headed by Barack Obama.

According to this bizarre report, Governor Sanford, who has been reported as "missing" for the past week after evading his security detail, pleaded with Ambassador Mamedov to have Russia become the first country to recognize the 'New Nation' of South Carolina upon its succession from the US and promised in return that Russian Military Forces would have 'total and immediate' access to his States ports and airfields.

Most interesting to note about South Carolina is that it became the first State to secede from the US when it left the Union on December 20, 1860 after the election of President Lincoln.

SC GOVERNOR WAS IN ARGENTINA?

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was in South America during a dayslong unexplained absence, not hiking the Appalachian Trail as his staff told the public.

The State reported that Sanford arrived this morning at Atlanta's Hartsville-Jackson International Airport on a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Republican told the South Carolina newspaper he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country. He says he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail but wanted to do something "exotic."

Sanford said he was alone on the trip. He declined to give any additional details about what he did other than to say he drove along the coastline.

THE NIGHTMARE OF A BALANCED BUDGET

A decision was taken recently in Berlin to introduce a balanced-budget law in the German constitution. It was a hugely important decision.

Anchoring the stability law at the level of the national constitution is an extreme measure – like locking the door, and throwing the keys away.

I am a little surprised not to hear howls of protests from France and other European countries.

Germany has not consulted its European partners in a systematic way. This was an example of policy unilateralism at its most extreme.

While the balanced budget law is economically illiterate, it is also universally popular.

Average Germans do not primarily regard debt in terms of its economic meaning, but as a moral issue.

Many ordinary Germans regard debt as morally objectionable, even if it is put to proper use.

They see the financial crisis primarily as a moral crisis of Anglo-Saxon capitalism.

The balanced budget constitutional law is therefore not about economics. It is a moral crusade, and it is the last thing, Germany, the eurozone and the world need right now.

PUT THE SYSTEM IN BANKRUPTCY

At the present stage, that particular contagion, which started at that point, has now reached the point of a general threat of a breakdown crisis of the entire international financial-monetary system.

We could, at any moment, in terms of days or weeks, we could have a general breakdown crisis, by which I mean a situation, as in the state of California, within the United States, for example, of large sections of the world going into a place where government breaks down; breaks down largely for financial reasons.

The entire United States is actually on the verge of such a situation, as are a number of countries in Europe.

Obama's speech was a collection of misrepresentations and outright lies.

CHINA REBUFFS US & EU OVER TRADE ATTACK

China has fought back after the United States and the European Union joined forces to complain about its unfair trade practices.

The US and the EU filed a joint complaint to the World Trade Organisation on Tuesday, accusing China of restricting exports of some raw materials in order to help Chinese manufacturers.

VATICAN OBSERVATORY'S NEW HOME READY

A renovated convent in Albano, Italy, is the new home of the Vatican Observatory.

It had been housed in the pontifical palace at Castel Gandolfo, the town south of Rome where the Pope spends the summer months.

The Observatory was founded in 1578 by Pope Gregory XIII as a committee to study the data and implications involved in the reform of the calendar that occurred in 1582.

In 1981, the Observatory founded a 2nd research center. This time the researchers headed to the desert of the US, founding the Vatican Observatory Research Group in Tucson, Arizona.

That location is now one of the world's largest center's for observational astronomy.

IRAN'S DISTRUST OF "EVIL BRITAIN"

It is no surprise that Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, put the "evil British Government" at the top of his list of Western powers that he accuses of fomenting the biggest street demonstrations in Tehran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Britain has been a convenient scapegoat and whipping boy for Iranian leaders when things go wrong at home.

Many Iranians still see Britain as "perfidious Albion", a scheming "little Satan" that pulls the strings of the "Great Satan" America, which is viewed as a superpower with more brawn but fewer brains than its "duplicitous" Anglo-Saxon ally.

Any intervention by the US government on behalf of the Iranian opposition is destined to backfire.

If US policymakers are truly interested in seeing Iran "unclench its fist," they should start by ceasing to pursue policies average Americans would rightly see as acts of war if perpetrated against them.

Here's some advice for Barack Obama, John McCain, and any other US politician who feels the urge to issue a declaration about the election in Iran: Shut up.
