The Twin Towers were long regarded as architectural dinosaurs and economic failures by their original owners, who applied to the City of New York to have the Towers demolished, but they were denied permission to demolish the Towers for safety reasons. Larry Silverstein purchased the Twin Towers with $129 million of borrowed money just 6 weeks before 9/11/2001. Silverstein then took out Terrorism insurance on the Twin Towers, and he has now been awarded more than $4 billion for the loss of the buildings. Many Americans now believe that the attacks on 9/11/2001 were directly perpetrated by President Bush and his advisors, with the cooperation of the CIA, the FBI, the Pentagon, and the Israeli Mossad, and that a right wing political and military coup has occurred within the US.
Senators will express concern that the Bush Administration has, over the past 4 years, expanded that power to include, among other things, the power to torture people and imprison them indefinitely. These are powers that most Americans would denounce as dictatorial if another country’s government claimed them, much less exercised them.
