THE HOLY ROMAN

Here is a translation of the address B16 gave at yesterday's general audience, which he dedicated to reflect on Psalm 144(145):1-13.

EMPIRE OF THE GERMAN NATION

2006 is a very special year for Bavaria. Apart from the visit by the Pope and the World Cup football championships, Bavaria will throughout the year be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the formation of the kingdom of Bavaria and 60 years of the Bavarian constitution.
[WAR: As I've been pointing out, 2006 is going to be a pivotal year in world history - and prophecy!]

Angela Merkel said that military force could be used as a last resort to combat terrorism. "The struggle against terrorism demands the use of all political, economic and, as a last resort, also military means."

EUROPE/RUSSIA

Today's papers continue to debate the furore over the publication of satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish daily that have caused an outcry across the Islamic world. President Bush's State of the Union address receives mixed reviews and the EU's new communication strategy gets short shrift in 2 dailies.

Newspapers across Europe have reprinted caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad to show support for a Danish paper whose cartoons have sparked Muslim outrage.

Vladimir Putin gave a traditional yearly press conference to Russian and foreign journalists yesterday in the Kremlin.

Wars, most wars at least, run not evenly but in fits and starts, settling down into sputtering Sitzkrieg for long intervals, then suddenly shooting out wildly in wholly unpredicted directions. The war in Iraq has fallen into a set pattern for long enough that we should be expecting something new. I can identify 3 factors – there may be more – which could lead to some dramatic changes, soon.

Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister stated that he believed the Iranian nuclear program to be for peaceful ends, while one cannot say the same for Israel.

Iran is not capable of building its own nuclear weapons, the former head of a nuclear power plant and current regional leader in southern Russia said. “In reality, the U.S. is provoking Iran."

While the IAEA meets for a 2-day emergency session to discuss Iran's nuclear program, Germany is optimistic that Tehran will reconsider its uranium enrichment activities.

Britain, France and Germany officially introduced a draft resolution here Wednesday asking the 35-nation board of the IAEA to report Iran's nuclear case to the UNSC.

Iran's foreign minister yesterday threatened immediate retaliation over a move to refer its nuclear weapons activities to the UNSC in comments which deepen his country's confrontation with the international community.

Iran's leader accused President Bush yesterday of being a blood-drenched warmonger who deserved to stand trial.

HOUSE OF ISRAEL

For the past 5 years, America has been led by a president who is clearly not up to the job — a man who is not just inarticulate, but lacking in judgment, intelligence, integrity, charisma or staying power.

Although not quite as slickly eloquent as Willy before him, Dubya, like his predecessor, is proficient and experienced in the art of speaking one thing and meaning another.

When the leader of the world's pre-eminent oil consumer says his country is addicted to the stuff, it justifiably makes headlines. Has the great gas-guzzler suddenly realised the virtue of temperance? And what effect could this have on global energy markets?
(LX op/ed: The axel of evil)

ECONOMY

President Bush defended the huge profits of Exxon Mobil, saying they are simply the result of the marketplace and that consumers socked with soaring energy costs should not expect price breaks.

MISC

A "New World Order" was proclaimed by President George H.W. Bush as the Soviet empire collapsed. But 2 new threats to this world order had already appeared: the international drug trade and radical Islamic terrorism. Indeed, the modern concept of a new world order depends on American primacy.
[WAR: Once America goes down, then the NWO collapses and the Old World Order reappears!]

Two British health organizations have reported that the way food is produced in the modern age has altered the balance of key nutrients people consume, and consequently affected mental health.
