THE HOLY ROMAN
"The Latin liturgy celebrates today the feast of the Chair of Peter. It is a very ancient tradition, witnessed in Rome since the end of the 4th century, which renders thanksgiving to God for the mission entrusted to the Apostle Peter and his successors."
B16 is taking advantage of the convocation of a consistory March 24 to call all cardinals worldwide to a meeting in Rome.
Yesterday B16 fired a shot across China's bows by naming Bishop Joseph Zen of Hong Kong, a Salesian, among the first batch of cardinals he will create next month. One of the chief foreign policy concerns of the Vatican is its relationship with Roman Catholics in China. However, they are divided between the "official" church that forms the state-controlled Catholic Patriotic Association and the larger "underground" church which remains loyal to Rome.
EMPIRE OF THE GERMAN NATION
After an exceptionally harmonious debut, Germany's government of conservatives and Social Democrats is bracing for several months of political turbulence that will determine whether the "grand coalition" governing Europe's largest economy has the courage to introduce unpopular tax, labor and health reforms, analysts and party officials say.
German papers
The decision by German utility E.On to make a takeover bid for Spain's Endesa has shaken up the energy sector and caught politicians in Madrid off guard. German newspapers assess the prospects for the blockbuster deal.
Germany and the US are warming up for a fresh diplomatic row over plans to open a huge collection of files from the Holocaust that has never been seen by historians or the general public.
A joint team of Israeli and German lawyers has filed a criminal indictment against the Iranian president in Germany, requesting he be tried for Holocaust denial.
EUROPE/RUSSIA
Today's press is dominated by speculation about the possible arrest of Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic.
MIDEAST/AFRICA/ASIA
I supposed there might be some in the Western world, like in America and Europe, who will not like what I am saying. I tell them if you don't like what I say I don't care, and if you feel mercy and sorrow toward the Israelis take them out of our lands and give them a state on your lands.
The film "Valley of the Wolves" has sparked mass hysteria in the Turkish community. But behind a classic battle between good and evil lies a dangerous agenda, writes EU parliamentarian Cem Özdemir in his review. The movie's goal: divide and provoke.
"The Shia are the insurmountable obstacle, the lurking snake, the crafty and malicious scorpion, the spying enemy, and the penetrating venom." With these words Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the ruthless leader of al-Qa'eda in Iraq, stressed to Osama bin Laden in 2004 his conviction that the biggest enemy in Iraq was not the Americans, but the Shias. Zarqawi's plan was simple and brutal: attack the Shias, weaken them and, more importantly, provoke a religious war that would drag in the rest of the Arab world on the side of the embattled Sunnis.
(LX op/ed: Political explosion)
People still talk about possible military action being taken against Iran. Certain experts believe that it is within Irans power to destabilize the whole of the Middle East.
Representatives of Iran and Turkey signed a security agreement at the end of the 11th Tehran-Ankara High Security Council session.
ECONOMY
The economy looks so healthy, so new, so high-tech, but people still get poor the old-fashioned way: by spending more than they make.
Discussions between US and EU trade bosses have failed to overcome their differences on the core issue of agriculture.

The Man of Sin speaks...
Gerald Flurry, the founder and leader of the Philadelphia Church of God, emphasized during a Sabbath service that members of his church must shun "disfellowshipped" and "Laodicean" church members. PCG members may no longer associate with their own children, parents or siblings if their children, parents or siblings are disfellowshipped PCG members or members of the WCG or any of its splinter groups other than the PCG.
Peter H. Duesberg is a molecular biologist. He is Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Duesberg questions, on a submicroscopic scale, two tenets of biology. One is the germ theory of AIDS. He contends that HIV is notthe cause of AIDS. The other is the gene mutation hypothesis of cancer. Duesberg claims that mutations in genes are not the cause of cancer. His principle work on HIV/AIDS is Inventing the AIDS Virus, published in 1996. In this book, and in other papers he has written on the subject, Duesberg systematically dismantles, piece by piece, the germ theory of AIDS.
[WAR: Yes, he is a modern-day Copernicus! I read his material years ago and am convinced he right-on-the-money. If you want to know the truth about AIDS and not the government propaganda, or the conspiracy theories from the Paranoid Protestants, then read what he has to say.]
Who was your first ancestor? New DNA studies say that all humans descended from an African ancestor. Uncover the specific paths that led from him to you - the ultimate human history, as written in our genes.
New advances in radiocarbon dating are threatening to upend old theories about when modern humans colonized Europe from Africa, and how rapidly they advanced.
