Pope Benedict XVI urged Italians to remain faithful to their Christian traditions, saying they can be examples to the world and enable dialogue with other cultures that are deeply religious.

The synod convoked by Benedict XVI on sacred Scripture will greatly benefit the Church as all renewal comes from the word of God, says the retired archbishop of Milan. "I believe it will be a very important moment for the history and life of the Church."

Benedict XVI will be welcomed as a "foreign leader of state” on his arrival in Turkey and not as a religious leader. Hurriyet, Turkey’s most popular daily, pointed to a “diplomatic crisis” brewing over the upcoming papal visit.

These many references to the case of Germany make one curious. What exactly did U.S. administrators do to succeed so well in promoting democracy there? A close look reveals that, from the standpoint of democratic nation building, the U.S. occupation of Germany is actually a lesson on what not to do!

Germany's highest court ruled Thursday that Berlin is not getting a helping hand from the federal government to put its financial house in order. What does that mean for the capital?

The Days of Moscow in Bavaria devoted to the 15th anniversary of the establishment of partnership relations between the Russian capital and the Free State of Bavaria are opening in Munich today.

A Polish patrol boat was alleged to have chased and fired warning shots at a German pleasure steamer in the Baltic yesterday after a dispute over customs and tax regulations that appears likely to bring relations between the two countries to a new low.

The expectations that the Eastern Europeans would speak with one voice had all but evaporated.

Kosovo is an unpleasant bit of unfinished business the West would prefer to forget. Western officials, starting with then-secretary of state Madeleine Albright, developed policy in a fantasy world. Washington should never have intervened in the Balkans. The region was a minor interest to Europe and of virtually no importance to America.

Premier Paranoid Protestant Prophecy Propagandist!...
But as God swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, He will defend those among His people who believe in the true Messiah and settle them in the land forever – along with all the Gentiles who believe in the true Messiah during that period of tribulation. And who is this true Messiah?
[WAR: The true Messiah is Yahshua ben Elohim, ben Adam - not the false and faggy "Jesus" of Christianity that ol' Hal represents!]

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Europe on Friday it was stirring up hatred in the Middle East by supporting Israel and said it "may get hurt" if anger in the region boils over. "We have advised the Europeans that the Americans are far away, but you are the neighbours of the nations in this region. We inform you that the nations are like an ocean that is welling up, and if a storm begins, the dimensions will not stay limited to Palestine, and you may get hurt."

A defiant President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has insisted that Iran will not back down "an inch" over its nuclear programme despite the growing threat of sanctions, and fired off another verbal attack on Israel, calling it a fraudulent regime that cannot survive.

Israel's prime minister delivered his strongest comments yet on Iran's nuclear program, warning yesterday that Tehran would have "a price to pay" if it does not back down from its atomic ambitions and hinting that Israel might be forced to take action.

Al-Qaeda has become more organised and sophisticated and has made Britain its top target, counter-terrorism officials have told the BBC.

Just as an empire on the rise, like the United States on the eve of the invasion of Iraq, is often inclined to take rash and ill-considered actions, so an empire on the decline, like the British and French empires after WW2, will engage in senseless, self-destructive acts. And I fear the same can happen to the US today, as we, too, slip into decline.

Sidney Blumenthal has here collected a large number of his articles, written for the British Guardian and Salon magazine between 2003 and 2006, along with an Introduction and Epilogue, dealing with the Bush administration. The book is a cogently argued analysis of Bush’s radical and dangerous policies.

While it focuses mainly on Iraq, Bob Woodward’s new bestseller, State of Denial, also offers a troubling glimpse into Saudi influence on the White House.

The top US general defended the leadership of defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying it is inspired by God. "He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country," said marine General Peter Pace, chair of the joint chiefs of staff.
[WAR: Just imagine what other countries - especially Muslim - think of this comment! It's just stokin' up the religious flames!]

They have as much right – indeed an obligation – to influence policy consistent with their worldview as any other group.
[WAR: These Protestant Harlots are acting just like their Whorish mother - spreading their legs and getting involved in worldly politics.]
