"The WAR on error"
Benedict XVI confirmed that the ecumenical movement toward full Christian unity is a priority of his ministry as Pope. "The Second Vatican Council considered as one of its main objectives the re-establishment of full Christian unity. This is also my objective."
The ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, awaits Benedict XVI's visit to Turkey with "fraternal love," says the Orthodox patriarchate. "We are awaiting the Pope's visit with fraternal love and great anticipation. It will be very important for our country and Orthodox-Catholic relations."
Just 19 months into his tenure, the pope has become as much a lightning rod as a moral leader; suddenly, when he speaks, the whole world listens. And what takes place over four days in three Turkish cities has the potential to define his papacy - and a good deal more. Few people saw this coming. Nobody truly expected Benedict to be a mere caretaker pope, but neither did church watchers expect surprises.
The publication of a new book has renewed the debate about Pope Pius XII's process of beatification. The Holy See and the Jewish Questions (1933-1945) is written by the professor of history of international relations at the University of Parma. The book aims to offer a detailed reconstruction of the diplomatic and humanitarian work carried out by the Holy See in the face of the persecutions suffered by Jews, beginning with Hitler's rise to power in Germany up to the end of World War II.
Clueless Catholic Causing Confusion...
"The Gospel of the second to last Sunday of the liturgical year is the classic text on the end of the world. There has always been someone who has taken it upon themselves to wave this page of the Gospel in the face of their contemporaries and provoke psychosis and fear. My advice is to be calm and to not let yourself be in the least bit troubled by these visions of catastrophe."
Paranoid Protestant Prophecy Propaganda...
Let me give to you what I believe is a "bird's eye view" of the last days timetable. But just keep this in mind: Jesus could come back again at any moment.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has had a trying first year in charge, holding together a fractious coalition government, presiding over a fall in unemployment and thawing relations with Washington. And with Germany set to take over the presidency of the G-8 and the EU in January, she will find dangers lurking around every corner.
The Economist special report...
Germany's chancellor wants to play a bigger role on the world stage. But are Germans ready?
For most of the 6 decades since WW2, it has been a giant IN CHAINS. THE DESIRE TO TIE IT DOWN was one of the chief motives of the German and French politicians who founded what has become the European Union.
[WAR: Ah, yes ... waking-up and smelling the fragrant aroma of the coffee-of-reality! Since it's coming from The Economist instead of "just me", will it finally sink-in that the EU (along with the euro) has to collapse in order to set Germany free to fulfill its destiny?! "...the Assyrian (not "European"), the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!" (Isa 10:5)]
The agreement by the 16 state interior ministers offers the chance of permanent residency rights to 190,000 so-called tolerated asylum seekers whose applications were rejected but who were allowed to remain in Germany on humanitarian grounds. The decision reached today means that in the future the right basic rule applies: A residency permit will only be given to those who work and who can speak German, said Edmund Stoiber, the conservative premier of Bavaria.
East European countries are struggling to join the euro. What if they give up?
Europe's center-left parties and the media hailed as a "revolution" the choice by French socialists of Segolene Royal as their party's candidate for the April 2007 presidential election. They highlighted her breakthrough as the first woman candidate for the top job in France and welcomed her "modern" and "dynamic" approach to politics, seen as a welcome, if overtly populist, break with the past.
Leaders of the American Jewish community expressed anger at Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, following his support for President Bush's Iraq war.
Syria is to demand American help in securing the return of the Golan Heights from Israel as the price of co-operation over Iraq.
Some soldiers in Afghanistan drink beer, the others risk their lives. That is how the British have characterized the current disparity among NATO allies in Afghanistan. The pressure on the Germans is growing.
A high-ranking delegation from Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, is scheduled to visit Austrian capital of Vienna from Nov. 22-24. The visit is to be made in response to an official invitation of the head of Austrian Chamber of Federal Economy.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said in a letter to Italian Premier Romano Prodi that his country is ready to consult with Italy on Middle East issues.
Iran's former president urged President Bush on Friday to remove the Islamic republic from his so-called "axis of evil" and warned Washington not to consider military intervention in his country. Bush "made a strategic mistake. He should exclude Iran from the circle (axis of evil) that he has made."
In case of any possible aggression on Iran, the country's armed forces "would attack enemies' military bases within a range of 2,000 km," stressed the Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
As President Bush steps up threatening rhetoric against Iran to force it suspend its nuclear program, calling for worldwide isolation of Tehran until it gives up its nuclear ambitions, experts predict that the coming days would see a much violent step by Washington against the Islamic Republic.
We must bomb Iran. It has been four years since that country's secret nuclear program was brought to light, and the path of diplomacy and sanctions has led nowhere.
The present American administration is an extremist theocratic apocalyptic neoconservative Christian-Zionist war mongering law-breaking power hungry administration with a bragging war president adopting the doctrines of pre-emptive strike and perpetual war against global terror. The US and NATO countries had lately amassed the largest military armada in the Middle East. This is the largest amass ever of military power in the region, and it has gathered there for a reason. With the American Leading Edge war game in the Gulf followed by the Iranian Great Prophet war games the powder keg became ready and all it needs is a match to ignite it. This could come in the form of an arranged terrorist act in Lebanon e.g. another political assassination or toppling of the government to be blamed against Syria and Iran. The war against Iran would engulf the whole Middle East and might overflow to its neighboring countries. According to military experts this war is scheduled to take place during March/April 2007.
Barely a week since their purported victory, the Democratic Party is already wallowing in dissension and bickering, like a dog eating its own tail. Not to be outdone in the race to the bottom, Bush-Cheney-Rove and the Republicans are locked into their own gang warfare over what remains of their criminal apparatus.
Heading into the final chapter of his presidency, fresh from the sting of a midterm election defeat, Bush finds himself with fewer and fewer friends. Some of the strongest supporters of the war have grown disenchanted, former insiders are registering public dissent and Republicans on Capitol Hill blame him for losing Congress.
Cheney knows that the story about a "Democratic sweep" is utter nonsense. Cheney was betrayed and his plans for one-party rule have been intentionally subverted. Cheneys dream of global hegemony and absolute rule continues to move forward, regardless of the elections results. He remains committed to his original plan whatever the cost to the country in terms of blood and treasure. Do not underestimate Dick Cheney. He is a dogged "bare-knuckled" street fighter with a will of tempered steel. He will stop at nothing.
The United States no longer controls the script. That's a reality Democratic congressional leaders must digest as they seek to recast America's relationship with the world. There used to be a time when the U.S. media wrote the global narrative. The world saw itself through a largely American camera lens. No more.
Al-Jazeera, the Arab television network that the Bush administration hates so passionately, has launched its English-language service but is, of course, having trouble finding an American cable or satellite system willing to carry it. Since American politicians have involved us so deeply in the Middle East, the American public is entitled to see the truth of what's going on over there. The public can't get that from American television, which sanitizes its reports. Al-Jazeera shows you the grim reality.
Reports of the death of Christianity in this country have been much exaggerated, by me among many others. Even the dear old Church of England is showing a few signs of revival.
Oil briefly dropped below $55 Friday to its lowest level since mid-2005 amid fund selling across commodity markets on worries of an economic slowdown in the world's largest energy consumer, the United States.
