The Daily WAR (#0828)

"The WAR on error"

The papal office has an unparalleled record of corruption and criminality over the centuries, and the true history of the popes is one of scandals, cruelty, debauchery, reigns of terror, warfare and moral depravity.

"The Lord is at hand: come let us adore him!" With this invocation, the liturgy invites us in these last days of Advent, to draw close as though on tiptoes to the cave of Bethlehem, where the extraordinary event took place that changed the course of history: the birth of the Redeemer.

The Vatican's secretary of state denied newspaper reports that the Holy See is thinking of launching a professional soccer team, capable of taking part in European championships. "This possibility has not been considered for the time being by the Holy See."

Thought "criminal" freed!...
The controversial right-wing author David Irving has been released from jail. He sat in a Vienna prison for 13 months because he had denied the Holocaust. Now his sentence has been reduced and he is free to return to Great Britain on probation.
[WAR: By the way, why do we call researchers who question whether Yahshua Messiah was the Son of God, or even the existence of God, "scholars" - while those that question the "Holocaust" are called all kinds of bad names, as well as pursued as criminals? Why is that?!]

The German government has declared war on homeschool families, promising to bring those with banned "religious convictions" into alignment with the state regulations.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin today for talks on Berlin's presidencies of the G8 and the EU starting next month, his ministry said.

A German plan to forge a new European policy on relations with Russia will be toughened. German officials are also increasingly concerned about Russia's drift and even ask what kind of influence Berlin can exert.

Germany will consider a NATO request to provide aerial surveillance in Afghanistan. German reconnaissance jets and additional troops would expand Germany's currently limited military presence in the country.

On Wednesday night last week, Belgium's French-speaking public television network created a stir with a surprise 90-minute broadcast that began with a news flash that Flanders had declared independence and that the Belgian state was breaking apart. The reality is that Belgium's days as a united nation may indeed be numbered. Belgium only became a nation in 1830 and its union of Dutch-speaking Flemings in the north and French-speaking Walloons in south was never a love match. Instead, it was a marriage arranged by the great powers bent on creating a neutral buffer state.
[WAR: If the country that hosts the HQ for the EU can't even stay together, what hopes are there of the EU staying together? Historical - and prophetical - forces are going to rip apart the EU!]

The threat of a terrorist attack on European soil by Islamic radicals has increased substantially in recent months, reaching its highest levels since the London transit attacks, according to European counterterrorism officials. Adding to the anxiety: fresh threats against Britain and France delivered yesterday by al-Qaeda's deputy leader.

Lawmakers have drawn up a resolution naming Jesus Christ as the honorary king of Poland, but have failed to win support from the country's powerful Roman Catholic church. Backing from the church in this strongly Catholic country would be crucial for building support for the proposal, but several bishops criticized it, and said parliament should stay out of religious affairs.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov snapped back at critics of Moscow's human rights record and foreign policy, and warned against what he said were attempts to punish Iran for its nuclear programme. Lavrov used an end-of-year press conference to declare Russia's return to "leading power" status.

Sudan must allow a team of U.N. personnel into Darfur and formally accept an international force for the area by the end of the year or face unspecified U.S. steps next year, a U.S. special envoy said yesterday.

Europeans on Wednesday revised a draft U.N. resolution to soften proposed sanctions against Iran in an effort to get Russia's support for the measure barring Tehran from importing dangerous nuclear materials. But Russia said there were still two or three provisions it wanted changed and hoped they could be resolved shortly. The United States said Washington was still studying the text.

Calling on the world to 'wake up' to the global struggle between the forces of moderation and extremism, British prime minister Tony Blair urged moderate Muslim states to form an 'alliance of moderation' to counter Iran.

Iran denounced British premier Tony Blairs call for an alliance of Muslim countries against Tehran as "hostile," accusing him of fueling tensions in the region. "The negative and discordant tendencies of Britain, along with the war-mongering and unilateral policies of Bush and Blair, have been the reason for tension and extremism and the cause of public hatred in the region."

President Ahmadinejad said the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon join the club of nuclear powers and be recognized as such by the world. "Bullying powers fear the growing awareness of Iranians because they know it is a prerequisite to progress."

The Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics said yesterday that enemies of the Islamic Republic face certain failure. Addressing an administrative council session in this western province, he said US forces are trapped in a quagmire in Iraq which they themselves created.

A battered group of neocons delivered the president his latest war plan, letting him reject the grave warnings of the Iraq Study Group and deny that we're losing the war.

The remarks delivered by President Bush at a year-end press conference yesterday, combined with a series of military and political developments, point inexorably to a major escalation of the US war in Iraq in the coming year. The political establishment as a whole—despite its bitter internal disagreements over policy in Iraq—is unwilling to abandon the attempt to subject the oil-rich country to US domination or renounce the wider strategy of utilizing US military might to pursue the global interests of American capitalism. Not only is America’s ruling oligarchy unwilling to end the Iraq war, it is preparing a buildup of its armed forces for new and even bloodier interventions.

The president of the European Central Bank said yesterday that the economy of the 12-country euro zone remained at risk of accelerating inflation, signaling that he will probably endorse interest rate increases next year.

The steep decline of the dollar is punishing Asia's smaller economies and should be addressed by global financial regulators, the governor of the Thai central bank said yesterday.

Even those accustomed to Wall Street's otherworldly pay scales gasped last week when Goldman Sachs' 2006 compensation numbers were released. Few probably suffer from the delusion that the bonuses are "fair" in any moral sense.  In a country where some people are starving and others are furiously debating a $1 increase in the minimum wage, such bonanzas provide a startling reminder of the inequities of America's free-market economy.
[WAR: Hurray for Wall Street ... to hell with Main Street!]

Scientists have made a breakthrough in their understanding of the genetics behind human eye colour. They found that just a few "letters" out of the six billion that make up the genetic code are responsible for most of the variation in human eye colour.
