The Daily WAR (#0916)

"The WAR on error"

The controversial Archbishop of Warsaw has resigned, less than an hour before he was due to be installed in his post. Stanislaw Wielgus has been at the centre of a communist-era spying row, and recently admitted collaborating with the secret police.

Kohl believed that, given Germany’s history in the 20th century, the only way for Germany to have a foreign policy was through Europe. He was often prepared to sacrifice German national interests for the sake of European integration. One example was Germany’s traditional generous funding of the EU budget and another his agreement to give up the Deutschmark, the symbol of Germany’s post-war economic success, to launch the euro in response to French desire to break the Bundesbank’s dominance over continental European monetary policy.
[WAR: Now tell me again - all you COG prophets - about how the euro was a German conspiracy forced upon Europe...]

DW-TV talked to Hans-Gert Pöttering, the likely new president of the European Parliament, about the German EU presidency, the chances for an EU constitution and his plans as leader of the bloc's legislative.

Germany's Foreign Minister warned today that stability in the Balkans depended on how the future status of Kosovo is resolved and said the EU will work to ensure peace in the Serbian province.

Russia accused the United States on Saturday of illegally imposing sanctions on some Russian military firms which Washington says were cooperating with Iran and Syria. "This is by far not the first time the U.S. resorts to illegal attempts to spread its internal legislation on foreign companies and force them to abide by the U.S. rules," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Iraq's massive oil reserves, the 3rd-largest in the world, are about to be thrown open for large-scale exploitation by Western oil companies under a controversial law which is expected to come before the Iraqi parliament within days. The huge potential prizes for Western firms will give ammunition to critics who say the Iraq war was fought for oil.

The Sudanese government has unleashed a fresh aerial bombing campaign in Darfur in an attempt to inflict as much damage as possible on rebel forces before United Nations troops arrive in the region.

Israel has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons. Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources. Military analysts said the disclosure of the plans could be intended to put pressure on Tehran to halt enrichment, cajole America into action or soften up world opinion in advance of an Israeli attack.

Israel will not tolerate Iran going nuclear and military sources say it will use tactical strikes unless Iran abandons its programme. Is Israel bluffing or might it really push the button?

How seriously should we take the threat of Israeli action? Events may have made a tactical nuclear strike against Iran more likely.

Israeli Prime Minister Olmert’s office said it would not respond to the claim. “We don’t respond to publications in the Sunday Times." Israeli Minister of Strategic Threats Avigdor Lieberman also declined to comment on the report.

The way things looks now, D-Day might not be too far away.

As Washington wages a very public battle against Iran's quest for nuclear power, it is quietly gaining ground on another energy front: the oil fields that are the Islamic Republic's lifeblood.

A genetic study has revealed a surprise about our ancestors. Whether they are called carrot-tops, ginger-heads or “Titian blondes”, these people are blessed — or cursed, according to some of them — with flaming locks that have been a feature of people for millenniums, from Boudicca to Prince Harry.

Insider trading gaining momentum, you as the tax slave, keeping you drugged, unmistakeable warnings of growing fascisim in America, and the increasing power of the  state... an arrogant, incompetent and power hungry FBI, inflation numbers questionable.
