The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity thus reminds us that ecumenism is a profound dialogic experience, a mutual listening and speaking, knowing one another better. It is a task that all can undertake, especially in regard to spiritual ecumenism, based on prayer and on sharing what is possible for the time being among Christians.
One of the Bundestag's most important jobs is to debate and approve bills. But ever more lawmakers are complaining about heavy pressure to quickly pass into law bills drafted sloppily by the federal government.
Foreign Minister Steinmeier came under increasing pressure at the weekend to respond to reports he helped block the release of a German-born Turkish man detained for 5 years without charge.
[WAR: Hmmm ... How 'bout replacing Steinmeier with Stoiber?! The CSU has always wanted the FM portfolio, and it would also temporarily shore-up support for Merkel. And with the next article in mind, who better than Stoiber to stand-up for "God" and "Christianity" when it comes to the EU charter?!! But ultimately this effort will fail. Then he could be in position to pick-up the pieces and lead Germany to its destiny. But hey, what do I know...]
Angela Merkel has renewed criticism that the bloc's constitution does not explicitly refer to Europe's Christian roots, in an interview to be published today.
The EU may be facing a damaging split over a controversial German proposal to allow police to operate outside a nation's borders. The Observer reported that Germany's ongoing efforts to allow armed officers to extend their investigations across given borders has drawn some opposition within the EU and threatens to divide the organization.
President Putin has pledged to secure energy supplies to Europe by reducing dependency on transit states like Belarus, following a meeting with Chancellor Merkel who said further "irritations" between the EU and Moscow have to be avoided.
And Merkel thought Bush's massage was bad...
The nationalist Serbian Radical Party has a clear lead in the country's elections, early results suggest.
President Putin supports reviving the so-called Quartet of international mediators in order to launch a new drive to revive the Middle East peace process.
Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki proposed to President Bush in November to withdraw US troops from Baghdad and let the Iraqi government take over security in the capital, a US newspaper reported.
In a new jointly written Weekly Standard article, Fred Kagan, the AEI think tank military genius behind President Bush's "surge" strategy, and Bill Kristol, one of the Chief Propagandists behind this war from the start, condemn Democrats for daring to question the military judgment of Gen. Petraeus, who agrees with Kagan and Kristol that more troops are needed.
Senior Israeli politicians and analysts appear to be preparing the public for military conflict with Iran as the Iranian President again refused to bow to international demands to curb its nuclear ambitions, and Tehran announced fresh military manoeuvres.
Determined not to budge under pressure, Iran announced new tests of short-range missiles Sunday, and President Ahmadinejad dismissed criticism that the country's economy has been hurt by UN sanctions imposed for its suspect nuclear program. The missile tests come as the US Navy is sending a second aircraft carrier to the volatile Persian Gulf.
Once again, we are seeing the victory of "intelligence" over solid evidence, this time in the run-up to war with Iran.
Marching orders...
President Bush will order an attack on Iran if it becomes clear to him that Iran is set to acquire nuclear weapons capabilities while he is still in office, Richard Perle has said.
Everyone knows that Bushs Iraq "surge" will not work. Nevertheless, Bush defended his surge plan, telling a group of TV stations last week, "I believe it will work." The surge is working, because it is deflecting attention from the Bush Regimes real game plan. The real game plan is to orchestrate a war with Iran and to initiate wider conflict in the Middle East before public and military pressure forces the Bush Regime to withdraw US troops from Iraq. Nothing can stop the Regime except the immediate impeachment of Bush and Cheney. This is Americas last chance.
For the first time since the Blitz and Operation Sea Lion, the very survival of Great Britain is in question. The move toward Scottish independence is naturally opposed by the traditional political powers. If the SNP takes power, no doubt one of its first acts will be to pass a referendum allowing the Scots to decide if they wish to continue to abide by the Act of Union, or to fulfill Braveheart's dream instead.
Very cool!...
