Harlot daughter on her Whorish mom...
Instead of taking offense at a recent Vatican statement reasserting the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, evangelicals should seize the chance to respond with equal candor that "any church defined by the claims of the papacy is no true church," according to a prominent Southern Baptist leader. The president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary wrote on his blog that he appreciated the document's clarity in voicing a key distinction between Catholics and Protestants over papal authority.

Graf von Stauffenberg attempted to assassinate Hitler 63 years ago on Friday. DW-world.de spoke to his eldest son, retired Major General Berthold Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, about the plot and its significance.

After years of pushing for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, Germany has scaled back its ambitions in the hope that a series of larger reforms would end with Berlin as part of the body.

France and the UK are set to hold regular sessions together ahead of important EU meetings to "harmonise" their positions. "They have decided to confer with each other regularly, in particular before big European meetings, to try to harmonise their positions on European issues as well as on international ones."

Not gonna happen...
William Hague has attacked a "shocking" Government concession that will give a new EU "foreign minister" the right to speak from Britain's seat on the UN Security Council. "It is a big step towards the federalists' end goal: a United States of Europe in which we would be represented at the UN not by a British ambassador on the Security Council but by the EU foreign minister, which this new treaty has also taken from the constitution."

Russia will not support the new draft resolution on Kosovo submitted to the UN Security Council by Britain, France and the US. Russia's Ambassador to the UN explained Moscow's position in clear and simple terms: "The draft and related documents are based on Kosovo's independence after a certain period. We cannot accept this approach. The status quo should be defined at the bilateral talks, and their results should be solemnized by the Security Council."

Valentina Matviyenko is the governor of St. Petersburg and the most powerful female politician in Russia. She spoke to Der Spiegel about the dispute over the US missile defense shield in Eastern Europe and women in politics.

What in the name of all that's holy is going on with Russia and the Brits? As usual, it's all about money. The Russians are locking British Petroleum out of the lucrative Siberian oil fields, and London is outraged. Add to this the rise of London as the world headquarters for shady Russian millionaires-in-exile – bidding up the prices of London real estate, and no doubt greasing the palms of the politicians – and we have all the ingredients of a new crusade by the West – to "liberate" some oil from its oppressive masters. It won't be long, now, before Russia is officially declared a sponsor of terrorism, and subjected to economic and political sanctions – and even targeted for "regime change."

US-Russian relations still enjoy the stabilizing benefits of a close and honest working relationship between President Putin and President Bush. Should equal partnership prevail in US-Russian relations, very little will be impossible for the two nations to achieve. The challenges are many, and practical cooperation on these and other challenges should not be sacrificed on the altar of renewed containment.

When a political heavyweight, like Henry Kissinger, jets-off on a secret mission to Moscow; it usually shows up in the news. Not this time. This time the media completely ignored - should we say censored - Kissinger's trip to Russia and his meetings with President Putin. In fact, apart from a few short blurps in the Moscow Times and one measly article in the UK Guardian, no major news organization even covered the story. There hasn't been as much as a peep out of anyone in the American media. Nothing. That means the meetings were probably arranged by Dick Cheney. The secretive Veep doesn't like anyone knowing what he's up to.

Tony Blair was told by the US yesterday that he had no authority to tackle political negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians as he spent his first full day as special envoy to the Middle East. Condoleezza Rice insisted that America would retain leadership of the "political track" while Mr Blair would work on raising funds for the Palestinians, as well as building their economy and infrastructure.

A group of hundreds of prominent Israeli rabbis today urged veteran politician Shimon Peres to immediately "repent" for calling on the Jewish state to evacuate strategic territory the they fear will be used by terrorists to attack Israel. "We call on Shimon Peres to publicly retract his 'shameful' remarks on the day of his inauguration calling for Israel to 'rid itself of the territories,' referring to the biblical Judea and Samaria (West Bank). Our sages tell us in the Talmud that when a person assumes an exalted position, all of his sins previously committed are forgiven. But you, Mr. Peres, missed the opportunity to rectify your historical blunders when you declared so blindly that Israel must rid itself of the territories. You caused tremendous damage not only to Jews in Israel but to the status of the Jewish people the world over."

World Likud chairman Danny Dannon is going to the US next week to take part in an evangelical Christian fund-raising campaign to bolster his campaign for party leadership. Dannon, who will be traveling to Texas next weekend, is facing off against Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu in next month's internal party primaries. Netanyahu, who was long a star in the evangelical Christian world, has disappointed Christian Zionists as he takes a more centrist view to pander to Israeli voters, Dannon said.

Israeli forces have made preparations to invade the Gaza Strip to stop a guerrilla build-up by Hamas and may only have a limited opportunity to launch such an attack, a top army commander said. "Israel has well drawn-up plans, the troops have been trained and await the go-ahead. If we opt to launch an operation, we'll know what to do."

Turkey's military has waged a cross-border incursion into Iraq, bombarding northern areas of the country, the Iraqi government said. The Iraqi government said Wednesday that Turkish artillery and warplanes bombarded areas of northern Iraq and urged Turkey to stop military operations and resort to dialogue, according to news agencies.

Desperate for oil...
The new leaders of the UK and France have said they are prepared to travel to Sudan's crisis-hit Darfur region to push forward the peace process.

It's going to be a "hot" summer in the Middle East, said President Ahmadinejad following a surprise meeting with Hizbullah leader Sheikh Nasrallah in Damascus on Thursday evening. "We hope that the hot weather of this summer will coincide with similar victories for the region's peoples, and with consequent defeat for the region's enemies. The enemies of the region should abandon plans to attack the interests of this region, or they would be burned by the wrath of the region's peoples."

Provisional Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran Ayatollah Khatami said confessions of 3 US agents proved Washington is after launching "soft and velvet coups' not only in Iran, but also in many other countries. "This policy has worked in some countries, but in Iran, it has faced defeat, just like the other failed US policies on Iran."

Delusional diplomats...
Israel's ambassador to the US said Wednesday that Israel and the free world are under attack by Iran, with a combination of fanaticism, terrorism and nuclear capability posing the most serious threat since the 1930s. "We must prevent this nightmare. The world must act and act now."

Idiots in Israel, along with those American idiots in the punditocracy who can't see where they are going because their vision is blocked by Israeli backsides, are trying to pressure our idiots in the White House to commit an act of insanity. That act of insanity is launching a military attack against Iran because the idiots and their followers believe, despite a total lack of evidence, that Iran is pursuing a nuclear bomb. If you think the Middle East is in turmoil now, just watch what happens if idiocy prevails.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting nearly half of all foreign militants targeting US troops in Iraq have come from Saudi Arabia – one of Washington's closest allies in the Middle East. US officials have so far refused to publicly criticize Saudi Arabia's role in Iraq, focusing instead on Iran.

The mindset that launched the invasion of Iraq remains embedded in the mentality of the ruling circles of the US - and compels them to lash out at Iran. The Bush gang's game plan remains the same: to somehow move beyond Iraq into Iran and Central Asia, to secure the geo-resource space that was the original goal of the Iraqi invasion - to change the world balance of power by military force. And so it is on to Tehran, by sea and by air. It does not matter that the attack may ignite an apocalypse...

A mounting US crackdown on foreign companies and banks doing business with Iran is provoking serious opposition in the UK and Europe, where diplomats are warning that the action could lead to a new trade war. Congress wants all international companies to end their investment in Iran now and is pushing through a bill that would penalise companies that fail to do so. The British government, along with other European governments, views the US approach as draconian and are lobbying hard against it.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry wants state pension funds to divest from companies doing business in Iran, similar to a move the funds are taking with companies tied to Sudan. The Republican governor said Wednesday he is trying to determine whether he could start divesting without legislative approval. If he can't, he said, he might call a special session. The divestment was advocated by Israeli officials Perry met with last month on a trip to Israel.

Brothers in arms...
David Miliband gave a rousing defence of Britain's special relationship with America yesterday, vowing to uphold what he called this country's "single most important" alliance. Days after government ministers hinted that Gordon Brown may distance himself from Washington, the Foreign Secretary used his first important foreign policy speech to defend staunchly Britain's support for President Bush. "If we want Britain to be a global hub we need a strong relationship with the leading global power. The US is our single most important bilateral partnership, yes because of shared values, but also because of political reality."

As for this country, the argument over who is responsible for the worst strategic debacle in American history will be poisonous. With a US defeat in Iraq, US prestige would plummet across the region. Who will rely on a US commitment for its security? Like the British and French before us, we will be heading home from the Middle East. What we are about to witness is how empires end.

I know it's a pretty high bar, but Bill Kristol, the founder of the Project for a New American Century that spawned the Iraq war, the man whose editorials often seem to be inserted directly into the president's speeches, and who once boasted that "Dick Cheney does send over someone to pick up 30 copies of [The Weekly Standard] every Monday," has now just written the single most deceptive piece of the entire war. The charitable view is that he's lost his mind. The less charitable view is that he's now officially surpassed Dick Cheney as the most intellectually dishonest member of the neocon establishment (the highest of all high bars).

How many pipe bombs might it take to end US democracy? Far fewer than it would have taken a year ago. The Defense Authorization Act of 2006 empowers President Bush to impose martial law in the event of a terrorist "incident" or if he or other federal officials perceive a shortfall of "public order" or even in response to antiwar protests that get unruly as a result of government provocations. The media and most of Capitol Hill ignored or cheered on this grant of nearly boundless power. But now that the president's arsenal of authority is swollen and consecrated, a few voices of complaint are being heard. Even the New York Times recently condemned the new law for "making martial law easier."

As soon as news filtered out of a steam pipe blast in Manhattan yesterday evening, everyone's first thought was terrorism, proving once again that in the six terror free years since 9/11, the Bush administration has created a United States of hysteria - and handed the terrorists a victory they could never have achieved alone - changing our very way of life.

One of the finest 9/11 news and media documentaries that covers 9/11 and the coming police state. Made by a member of the Loose Change Forums.

Appearing on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes, Malik Shabazz, the attorney for the New Black Panther Party, reiterated that many 9/11 families are taking action against the government and the FAA for at the very least having foreknowledge of the attacks. Shabazz described Hannity as being "on a sinking ship with George Bush" and declared "you are behind this war Hannity" all the while ignoring his pathetic attempts to draw him into a conversation about Jewish foreknowledge of 9/11 in order that he could play the anti-semite card, regardless of any facts surrounding that matter.

Is the Federal Reserve the protector of America's money policy and financial well-being, as routinely portrayed by the establishment press? Or is it, as critics have long alleged, an unaccountable, private banking cartel siphoning off citizens' wealth and manipulating America's economy for the benefit of a hidden elite? A stunning, in-depth documentary now answers this question – and the answer is more than surprising. It's shocking.

Keeping a healthy weight may help people live longer by limiting brain exposure to insulin, say US scientists. "Our findings put a mechanism behind what your mother told when you were growing up - eat a good diet and exercise, and it will keep you healthy. Diet, exercise and lower weight keep your peripheral tissues sensitive to insulin. That reduces the amount and duration of insulin secretion needed to keep your glucose under control when you eat. Therefore, the brain is exposed to less insulin."
