    Chancellor Merkel aims to coax the international community to accept sweeping new rules to tame financial markets modeled on her country's policies and "won't rest" until they do.
    In a New Year's address due to be broadcast later today, the Christian Democrat said she will push for the adoption of global rules based on Germany's "social market," recognizing the primacy of the state in determining how markets operate in place of laissez-faire rules she alleges caused the crisis.
    "The state is the guardian of economic and social order," Merkel said, adding that Germany tempers market competition by a "sense of proportion" and social responsibility.
    "Those are our rules," she said. "I won't let go until we've succeeded in gaining their adoption" as international rules.
 
    Chancellor Merkel has signalled she is prepared to cut taxes to help stimulate the economy in 2009.
    In her New Year address, she urges Germans to take heart despite the looming downturn, reminding them that the country has mastered bigger challenges.
    The remark suggests that she is prepared to make concessions to the Christian Social Union, the Bavarian sister party to her conservative Christian Democrats. The CSU has been calling for tax cuts to help avert recession.
 
    In her New Year's address, Chancellor Merkel blamed the radical Palestinian movement Hamas for the latest flare-up with Israel and said Germany would do all it could to promote peace in the Middle East.
 
 
 
    A number of crises threw the European Union into near-constant meeting mode in 2008, but the summits have shown that Europe can play a leading -- if sometimes unclear -- role in word affairs.
 
    On Thursday, the Czechs take over the European Union's 6-month rotating presidency from EU heavyweight France.
    The nation of about 10 million people bordering Germany and Poland is also the last EU member to vote on the stalled Lisbon Treaty.
    The most prominent Czech critic of the treaty is the nation's president, Vaclav Klaus, who openly says "a well functioning, bureaucratic EU is not my goal."
 
    Russia's state gas monopoly, Gazprom, said Wednesday that Ukraine has threatened to seize gas intended for European customers if no deal is reached on gas shipments to Ukraine starting Thursday.
    Gazprom's deputy chairman said Ukraine's threat amounted to "blackmail" of Russia and the European Union.
 
    The world has started to respect Russia and take Russia's opinion into consideration. This is Russia's major achievement in 2008.
    The future of 2009 is rather vague because of the financial crisis, which has all chances to develop into a global political crisis.
 
    The contest has ended and the West, the Anglo-Marxist West is proclaiming evidence of a new cold war by the fact that Stalin, at 11.5% of the vote, took 3rd place.
    Yet, another way of looking at this is: 88.5% of the Russian population rejected Stalin and his policies.
    The rotten and dieing Anglo-Sphere has to do what ever it can to keep the peasants distracted and looking the other way as the top 1% abscond with the last of the piggy bank change.
    So instead of pointing a finger at the mote in your neighbor's eye, the Anglo-Marxist's populace should take a close look at the so called leaders and elites of their own lands and where they are leading them.
    Worry about your own bankrupt and foreclosed house before launching off on another self-righteous and blood soaked crusade to straighten out someone else's.
 
 
 
    Four leading Israeli rabbis have sanctioned the murder of civilian population in the Gaza Strip amid the Israeli onslaught on the region.
    The ruling seems to give a free hand to Israeli commanders to attack Gaza's civilian population and persuade those troops who have reservations to kill civilians due to humanitarian considerations.
 
    From the day of its birth, Israel has been a Western project, a unique creation of European ideologues whose vision of a Jewish state was rooted in myth, custom, and remembrance, rather than blood and soil.
    Israel owes its existence to theology rather than geography, and in this it occupies a singular place in the history of nations.
    Because Israel is almost entirely dependent on international support – and especially American support – for its very survival, without US public opinion behind it the Jewish state would soon wither on the vine.
    What this means, in practice, is that a constant stream of pro-Israel propaganda [including Paranoid Protestant Prophecy Poop] must be directed at the American people in order to justify the high levels of financial and military aid that keep Israel afloat.
    What's more, the Israelis must constantly generate the urgency and immediacy of the need to support their country.
    They have succeeded in doing this by projecting a sense of continuing crisis.
 
    Israel has promised a "war to the bitter end." Yet history is full of examples showing that battling an organization like Hamas is almost futile.
    It is a lesson Israel learned just 2 short years ago.

    Tuesday was day 4 of Israel's punishing air attacks on the Gaza Strip. As the number of dead and injured continues to climb, the gap between those who support and those who condemn Israel widens. German commentators take a look.
 
    Speaking during exclusive WND interviews today, leaders of Hamas and an allied terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip claimed they have "surprises" in store for Israel as the Jewish state continues its aerial bombardment of Hamas targets in Gaza.
    The threats come as information from Israeli defense officials indicates Gaza-based terrorists have long-range rockets capable of reaching just outside Tel Aviv if launched from the northern Gaza Strip.
 
    Turkey's Prime Minister met Syrian President Assad today on the first stop of a regional tour focusing on Israel's deadly onslaught on Gaza.
    Their meeting centered on "the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip because of the Israeli aggression," Syria's official SANA news agency reported.
 
    Gulf Arab leaders have ended a regional economic summit in Oman with calls for an end to Israeli raids on Gaza but divisions on how to address the crisis.
    Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss calling an emergency Arab summit at a meeting in Cairo today.
 
    Israel's ongoing bombing of the Gaza Strip has put Egypt in a delicate position. The government in Cairo has no interest in antagonizing Israel, but pressure is growing to allow Palestinians into the country. The attacks have split the Muslim world.
 
 
 
    Contrary to popular belief, the Iranian hardliners are not opposed to reestablishing diplomatic relations with the US. They are fully aware that the Iranian people favor rapprochement.
    President Ahmadinejad has tried to bring the US to the negotiation table. He sent a long letter to President Bush but did not receive any response.
    Two powerful lobby groups are opposed to any rapprochement between Iran the US.
    One is the well-known Israel lobby.
    The 2nd group that opposes détente between the US and Iran consists of the Middle East's Arab governments.
    Their fears are rooted in their total dependence on the US for the survival of their regimes, the fierce anti-Americanism of their populations, and the historical resentments that Arab governments have had toward Iran.
 
    Top Neo-Con John Bolton told Fox News yesterday that the conflict in Gaza could lead to a US attack on Iran as the former US ambassador to the UN exploited the crisis to propagandize for a new war.
    "So while our focus obviously is on Gaza right now, this could turn out to be a much larger conflict," he said, adding that "we're looking at potentially a multi-front war here."
    "I don't think there's anything at this point standing between Iran and nuclear weapons other than the possibility of the use of military force possibly by the United States, possibly by Israel."
 
    Iran's Air Force is on alert after the country's president envisaged major regional developments in the wake of the Israeli raids on Gaza.
    The Air Force commander added that the enemy has been closely monitoring Iranian military planes.
 
 
 
    At a private meeting, a top Foreign Office official laid out the major goal of British diplomacy in the New Year: to persuade Barack Obama not to ask Britain for anything it cannot or will not do.
 
    The Obamas will arrive in Washington this weekend but they have been forced to book into a regular hotel after the Bush Administration said the official residence was full.
    Presidents-elect traditionally prepare for their inauguration while staying in Blair House, a government mansion near the White House, but Barack Obama was told to look elsewhere because the building was booked up for farewell parties and events to mark the end of the current administration.
 
    A lawyer who already has 2 conferences pending before the Supreme Court on the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president has filed a new lawsuit, this one on behalf of a retired military colonel who would need to know whether to follow any orders issued by Obama as commander-in-chief.
 
    A new case challenging Barack Obama's natural-born citizenship and, therefore, constitutional eligibility to serve as president has the potential to clear a hurdle that caused several other similar cases' dismissal: the issue of "standing."
 
    From all indications, the outgoing Bush Administration is determined to do its damnedest to accelerate the current catastrophic financial and economic crisis during its last month in office — leaving Barack Obama with a new series of disasters, including a potential dollar crisis.
 
    The Union is squaring off against the South again.
    This time it's Detroit's union – the UAW – partnering with the auto manufacturers, politicians, and media supporters of the domestic auto industry to wage warfare against the entire South.
 
    Political science professor at the University of Texas at El Paso Charles Boehmer points out that "The military was not called out during the Great Depression."
    So why is the military planning on how to crush civil protest in regards to the current economic crisis?
    Is it because the theft - via "bailouts" and other hanky-panky by Treasury, the Fed and others - of hard-earned taxpayer wealth is so obvious that the military expects Americans to revolt?
    The other potential explanation is that the military has been told that this financial crisis could be much, much worse than the Great Depression.
    So which is it? The obviousness of the theft or the severity of the crisis?
 
 
 
    The US recession, heavy discounting by retailers and a nasty mix of winter weather in the days before Christmas combined to produce the worst holiday season since at least 1970.
 
    European stock markets opened higher today following Wall Street's rally in the previous session but were on course to end 2008 sharply lower following unprecedented turmoil in the financial markets over the last 12 months.
    2008 will go down as one of the worst years ever in stock markets as the credit crunch claimed a number of high-profile investments banks in the U.S. and brought the financial world to near-ruin.

    This latest bailout fiasco is almost as troubling as the financial transactions that caused this economic crisis.
 
    The co-founder of German software giant SAP is a multi-billionaire. He lost a lot of money in the financial crisis in 2008. But in an interview with Spiegel, he defends the system -- capitalism, the stock market, even high bonuses for managers.
 
    The corporate forces that are looting the Treasury and have plunged us into a depression will not be contained by the 2 main political parties.
    The Democratic and Republican parties have become little more than squalid clubs of privilege and wealth, whores to money and corporate interests, hostage to a massive arms industry, and so adept at deception and self-delusion they no longer know truth from lies.
    The free market and globalization, promised as the route to worldwide prosperity, have been exposed as a con game.
    Corporations have intruded into every facet of life. These corporations have no loyalty to America or the American worker. They are not tied to nation states. They are vampires.
    If Barack Obama does not end the flagrant theft of taxpayer funds by corporate slugs and the disgraceful abandonment of our working class, especially as foreclosures and unemployment mount, many in the country will turn in desperation to the far right embodied by groups such as Christian radicals.
    The failure by the left to offer a democratic socialist alternative will mean there will be, in the eyes of many embittered and struggling working- and middle-class Americans, no alternative but a perverted Christian fascism.
    The inability to articulate a viable socialism has been our gravest mistake. It will ensure, if this does not soon change, a ruthless totalitarian capitalism.
 
 
 
    Learning how to think straight, as opposed to what values and opinions to hold, is the crucial part of education.
    Part of that learning is to be able to understand the distinction between subjective statements, for which there are no commonly accepted standards of proof, and positive statements for which there are.
 
    In case you haven't noticed, we're living in a very strange time. It's a time when evil is celebrated as good, and good is condemned as evil, as predicted by the prophet Isaiah. Even the Holy Bible is under attack as never before.

    Now, how exactly does someone "put/turn/change/substitute" darkness for light and light into darkness? With fire or electricity, or lack thereof?
    Well, knowing that ELOHIM established that light=day and that darkness=night (Gen 1:5), and that He "appoints the Sun to shine by day(light), and decrees the Moon and stars to shine by night(darkness)" (Jer 31:35), the following translations make more sense: "Woe to those who...
      "think darkness is light and light is darkness" (NCV)
      "count darkness as light and light as darkness" (AAT)
      "present darkness as light and light as darkness" (Tanakh)
    That's right! Isaiah is condemning those who "think" that the night is part of the day, so "count" this when determining when the Sabbath day and holy days are, and "present" it as truth to those who are wanting/trying to obey the Scriptures!!
    But the knee-jerk reply is: What? How can this be? Because "we are wise, for we have the law of YAHWEH." (Jer 8:8)
    To which YAHWEH responds:
        "Actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely." (NIV)
        "The false pen of the scribes has made it into a lie." (RSV)
        "The falsifying pen of the scribes made it into a fabrication." (NBVME)]
 
Since I'm on a roll...
    Biblical scholar Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi, best known for his teachings on how Sabbath observance shifted toward Sunday worship in much of Christendom, died Dec. 20th at his Michigan home at the age of 70.
    Bacchiocchi earned his doctorate in Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome [red flag!] and was awarded a gold medal by Pope Paul VI [big red flag!] for his summa cum laude class work and dissertation, "From Sabbath to Sunday: A Historical Investigation of the Rise of Sunday Observance in Early Christianity."
    A Seventh-Day Adventist, Bacchiocchi believed there was no Scriptural mandate to change or eliminate Sabbath-keeping, and he singled out the Catholic Church for its role in changing the day.
    [WAR: Well, Satan is also a biblical scholar who knows all about the Sabbath day vs. Sunday issue. So there's more involved than just knowing the truth about the Sabbath day.
    With that said, I'm about to attack (not the person/character of Samuele and his great work/effort toward establishing the truth about the Sabbath day) a particular belief/doctrine he held and taught. I'm attacking a belief, not the believer.
    So Samuele actually ends up being the perfect example of just how sly Satan can be in his effort to kill people with the truth -- truth that's wrapped around some deadly cyanide.
    A few people voiced their opinion about Samuele to me, and the comments were quite negative.
    I'm sure there's probably numerous beliefs of Samuele that I could take to task, but the one that is the killer -- the cyanide -- is the one about who/what Yahshua was.
    I sent him an e-mail specifically asking him about his belief regarding Yahshua's nature ("testing the spirits" as John tells us to do in 1 John 4:1-3).
    And here is his reply: "Regarding Christ's nature … what has been revealed to us is that He was both the son of god and the Son of Man, or we would say, fully God and fully man. We are dealing with a mystery that should not be subjected to speculations."
    So unfortunately, Samuele failed the testing of the spirits. He held on firmly to the antichrist doctrine that Christianity (specifically the Catholic Church) is built on. And that is why "the world (even a pope!) listened to him" (1 John 4:5).
    But fortunately for him, when he's resurrected at the end of the Millennium, he'll finally have the opportunity to know the truth of the matter: Yahshua was Immanuel (A-man-you-all)!]
