    Pope Benedict XVI canonized 5 new saints today.
    He presided over the ceremony in a packed St. Peter's Square and praised each as a model for the faithful and said their lives and work were as relevant today as they were some 700 years ago.
 
    Benedict XVI's trip to the Holy Land next month is being billed by a Web site of Israel's Ministry of Tourism as a "Bridge for Peace."
 
    The Shin Bet security service does not want Pope Benedict XVI to use his so-called pope mobile in Nazareth next month, saying it may not be enough against any attack by radical Islamic groups.
    The Holy See told the Israeli government that the pope wants to get as close as possible to his followers, so the Vatican hopes the pope will use the vehicle.
    [WAR: I guess that would be quite ironic if there is an attempted attack on B16 (he won't be killed) at the same time that Angels & Demons is released.]
 
    Ahead of Benedict XVI's visit to the Holy Land, members of the Israel-Holy See Bilateral Permanent Working Commission report that "meaningful" progress is being made to conclude their agreements.
    A working-level meeting of the commission met Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem to continue negotiations on the economic agreement regarding the fiscal system and Church properties.
    "Meaningful progress was achieved by receiving a report from a working group, and the delegations renewed their joint commitment to conclude the agreement as soon as possible."
    Since signing the Fundamental Agreement in 1993, which established diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Israel, they have been negotiating the particulars of tax exemptions and property rights for the Church, in particular for the holy sites.
 
    The secretary-general of the League of Arab States visited Benedict XVI Friday after signing a new agreement with the Holy See.
    The Vatican reported that the discussions highlighted the "importance of [this] agreement, which seeks to favor an ever greater collaboration between the two parties in favor of peace and justice in the world."
 
 
 
 
 
    The economic meltdown has rattled the confidence of the skilled workers at the heart of the German economic and social model.
    But they are unlikely to take to the streets -- at least for the time being.
    Germany has long been overshadowed by warnings that a crisis was looming. But now it's here.
    Politicians, business leaders, experts and trade union leaders sit around the table in the Chancellery. The only thing they know is that no one knows what to do.
    For the first time since WW2, Germany's middle class has been shaken to the core.
 
    A former chairman of the Social Democrats suggested on public radio that German workers, just like their French counterparts, should kidnap their boss if they're worried about their future.
 
    They are the underdogs. With 5 months to go before the federal election, the Social Democratic Party is lagging 10 points behind its partner in the grand coalition, the Christian Democratic Union.
    The SPD cannot afford to wait to make its move until the campaign's "hot phase" a month or so before the poll. So it launched its offensive last week by presenting its programme and candidate.
 
    An unexploded Soviet bomb from WW2 has been found just outside the Berlin apartment of Chancellor Merkel.
    The find triggered a city-center lockdown as bomb-disposal experts moved to defuse it.
 
 
 
Criminal thoughts...
    Czech police detained former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke in Prague on Friday on suspicion of supporting or denying the Holocaust.
 
    In a marked sign of how quickly the economies of Western Europe have deteriorated, workers are now heading home, hoping to find better job prospects, or at least lower costs of living, in their native lands.
    In many ways, this is what the European Union was meant to be, a zone where workers could move freely in search of jobs.
    But as the economic crisis deepens, fault lines are emerging across the Continent, where borders may be porous but national identities remain fixed.
 
    Russia has reacted angrily to the forthcoming NATO-led Partnership for Peace exercises in Georgia.
    President Medvedev called the decision to hold the exercises "shortsighted and not worthy of true partnership."
    He warned that tensions in the region will rise, saying: "these actions are a clear military demonstration, a buildup of military muscle," and that Russia "shall be following everything that will be happening there in the most attentive way, and, if need be, take this or that decision."
 
 
 
    The Arab media like to describe everyone suspected of spying for Israel as working for the Mossad.
    However, the work of gathering information about targets is in fact a joint effort, in which the 3 branches of the Israeli intelligence community cooperate with each other: the Mossad, the Shin Bet security service and the 2 major Military Intelligence units - electronic surveillance Unit 8200 and Unit 504, which runs agents.
 
    Hundreds of East Jerusalem Palestinians have lost their homes over the past few years, thanks to demolition orders.
    Israeli NGO's warn that close to 2,000 could face the same fate over the next months.
    If current demolition orders are carried out, this would be the largest loss of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem since Israel captured the territory just over 40 years ago.
    At the same time, Jewish Israeli citizens are moving in to the area. This is illegal under international law, as East Jerusalem is occupied territory.
 
    Israel is considering the expansion of a settlement in the West Bank, despite opposition from the international community.
    An Israeli interior ministry committee has called for the expansion of one of the largest settlements in the occupied West Bank.
 
    Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman declared that Syria could not be considered a real partner for peace with Israel because it supports Palestinian and Lebanese terror organizations, and the Iranian nuclear program.
 
    It should be clear to anyone conscious and watching that central to Obama's Middle East strategy is to disabuse the long-held notion that there exists a "special relationship" between the United States and Israel.
 
    Jordan's King Abdullah on Friday said that Israel must choose between integrating into the region or remaining isolated, and warned that delaying a 2-state solution would be disastrous for Israelis and Palestinians.
    The Jewish state can "integrate into the region...or to remain fortress Israel, isolated, holding itself and the entire region hostage to continued confrontation."
 
    Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Israel and the US on Saturday for persistent violence in Iraq after 2 suicide attacks left scores of Iranian pilgrims dead.
    "The American and Israeli intelligence apparatuses are the #1 accused... for the spread of the poisonous seeds of terrorism in Iraq. Those evil brains and sinful hands that established this blind, unbridled terrorism in Iraq should know that this fire will end up burning them."
 
    Events in Pakistan and Afghanistan are already overtaking the Obama administration's month-old strategy for the countries, and it needs to be modified even before it's been implemented, US officials and experts said.
 
    Afghanistan could prove to be a quagmire for Obama, with the Taliban resurgence a threat to existing US forces.
 
    Thousands of Pakistani troops were massing for an assault on Taleban positions 65 miles from the country's capital Friday night after giving the insurgents 24 hours to withdraw from their advanced positions or face attack.
 
    India's army on Saturday accused Pakistani forces of helping Muslim guerrillas attempting to sneak into its disputed Kashmir region from the Pakistani side.
 
    The ANC overwhelmingly won South Africa's general election, official results showed, but fell short of the two-thirds majority it held before the poll.
 
    With an unprecedented display of its rapidly growing naval armoury, China has flaunted its ambitions as a global power.
    To mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army Navy, Chinese leaders on Thursday reviewed a maritime parade of hardware ranging from nuclear submarines to amphibious assault-craft and fighter bombers.
    The only missing ingredient of naval might was an aircraft-carrier. Officials hint it will not be long before China has some of these too.
 
 
 
    Tehran asks Washington to clarify its real stance towards Iran after Obama threatened to keep 'all options on the table' over Iran.
 
    Israel had planned to attack and "destroy" the bulk of the Iranian Air Force fleet during a maneuver on April 17, Israel's Debkafile claims.
    "Israel was planning to destroy all 140 fighter-bombers concentrated at the Mehr-Abad Air Force base for an air show over Tehran on Iran's Army Day the following day. (But) due to poor visibility and the appearance of dust storms (over the city), we were forced to cancel the drill for an optimal output."
    However, Debka, which has close links to the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, quoted intelligence sources as saying that the cancellation was announced after a tip-off from the Russians.
    "Moscow had informed the Iranians that its spy satellites and intelligence sources had picked up preparations at Israeli Air Force bases to destroy the 140 warplanes, the bulk of the Iranian air force, on the ground the night before the display, leaving its nuclear sites without aerial defense."
 
    Israel says it will not resort to military invasion to suppress Iran's nuclear activities even if the international pressure proves to be of no avail.

Melting messiah...
    As the White House prepares to reach the 100 days milestone since Obama's inauguration, it is being true to the form shown over the preceding 99: to exploit ruthlessly American politics while simultaneously asking that Obama be judged by a different standard.
    Privately, however, advisers acknowledge that Obama's reach may exceed his grasp. Nor is he quite as infallible as he seemed before the inauguration.
 
    Obama is trying to find a new balance between national security and human rights.
 
    California is now divided more east-west than north-south.
    The problem with those lefties on California's coast is that they "love fish, hate farmers," says Virgil Rogers in his Okie twang, so common in California's Central Valley.
    Actually that's just where the problems start, and he begins to list them.
    So different are the folks by the sea and in the interior, he says, that the only way forward is to split the state in two.
    Thirteen coastal counties, from Los Angeles to Marin, just north of San Francisco, should become the 51st state, to be named whatever they please; the remaining 45 counties would remain simply "California".
 
    Foreign government incursions into the US rocketed 359% from 2007 to 2008, and the nation is under attack in San Diego, according to a new report from Judicial Watch.
    "These new Homeland Security documents indisputably show there is a crisis on our border with Mexico. Our agents are being attacked and our sovereignty violated at alarming rates."
 
    The Pentagon and Homeland Security Department are developing contingency plans to send National Guard troops to the US-Mexican border under a $350 million initiative that would expand the US military's role in the war on drugs, according to Obama administration officials.
 
    Nullifies. Hmmm, there's a word we haven't seen in awhile, and with good reason.
    You see, the word "nullify" like its conceptual kissing cousins "secession," "states rights," "delegated powers," and sometimes even "Constitution" belongs to a special class of political 4-letter words, so called for the reason that they are verboten in polite conversation amongst the political mainstream.
 
    Texas politics has long been a source of great amusement for the people of our state, but it's often a source of bafflement for people beyond our borders.
    So, sometimes there's a need to explain what's going on here, and this is one of those times. In this case, the explanation is simple: Our governor is a goober.
 
    Populism isn't just popular in America; it is becoming the dominant paradigm, and that has the Establishment frightened.
 
    Liberals and conservatives have highly different moral priorities. And we have to understand them if we want to accomplish anything.
 
Too late!...
    America is more than a collection of policies. We are, or at least we used to be, a nation of moral ideals.
    In the past, our government has sometimes done an imperfect job of upholding those ideals. But never before have our leaders so utterly betrayed everything our nation stands for.
 
    We need to return to the Lord and repent from our disobedience of sending our children to today's soul killing institutions.
    Let us stop the lip service and begin today, right now, and change the direction we are headed as a nation.

    Disaster looms in yet another asset class.
 
    The privilege of supplying the world's reserve currency, the money nations use to conduct business beyond their borders, is a source of power to the nation that possesses it more valuable than the most powerful military.
    Since virtually all money is created 'out of thin air' by entries in bank ledgers, the nation supplying the world's reserve currency has the power to create enough money to buy the world.
    Working in conjunction with its banks, a nation supplying the reserve currency can conquer and control vastly more of the world's wealth than it could hope to with military force.
    It is this power, the 'dollar standard' foundation of the international monetary system, the US government in conjunction with Wall Street, US money-center (big) banks and compliant central banks around the world are working so desperately to sustain.
    Until this is recognized and resisted, not just in the US but around the world, there is little hope for a stable world economy or for a more just international economic order.
 
    A glimmer of hope for the global economy has been offered by finance chiefs from the world's G7 economic powers - including Timothy Geithner, the US Treasury Secretary.
 
Perfect picture!...
    But, welcome as it is, optimism contains two traps, one obvious, the other more subtle.
    The obvious trap is that confidence proves misplaced — that the glimmers of hope are misinterpreted as the beginnings of a strong recovery when all they really show is that the rate of decline is slowing.
    The subtler trap, particularly for politicians, is that confidence and better news create ruinous complacency.
    The worst global slump since the Depression is far from finished.
 
    The world is running out of capital. We cannot take it for granted that the global bond markets will prove deep enough to fund the $6 trillion or so needed for the Obama fiscal package, US-European bank bail-outs, and ballooning deficits almost everywhere.
    Traders already whisper that some governments are buying their own debt through proxies at bond auctions to keep up illusions – not to be confused with transparent buying by central banks under quantitative easing. This cannot continue for long.
    US hedge fund Hayman Advisers is betting on the biggest wave of state bankruptcies and restructurings since 1934.
    The worst profiles are almost all in Europe – the epicentre of leverage, and denial.
    Great bankruptcies change the world. Spain's defaults under Philip II ruined the Catholic banking dynasties of Italy and south Germany, shifting the locus of financial power to Amsterdam.
    Anglo-Dutch forces were able to halt the Counter-Reformation, free northern Europe from absolutism, and break into North America.
    Who knows what revolution may come from this crisis if it ever reaches defaults. My hunch is that it would expose Europe's deep fatigue – brutally so – reducing the Old World to a backwater.
 
    The G20's grand plan to raise $1.1 trillion in economic rescue money for the International Monetary Fund is stuttering as developed and developing nations faced an impasse over how to generate the cash.
    The hold-up at the IMF's meeting in Washington raises concerns about the prospects for the world economy, after leading finance ministers warned that there was a chance the world could relapse into another bout of financial crisis.
 
    Hoping to raise money quickly for a new $500 billion emergency loan program, the International Monetary Fund is in the advanced stages of a plan to sell bonds for the first time in its history, officials for the group said Saturday.
    The bonds' buyers are expected to be the governments of fast-growing emerging economic powers like China, Russia, Brazil and India.
 
    As the IMF gets richer, will the poor get a raw deal yet again?
 
    China revealed on Friday that it had secretly raised its gold reserves by 75% since 2003, increasing its holdings to 1,054 tonnes - or a pot worth about $30.9 billion - and confirming years of speculation it had been buying.
 
Crime pays!...
    While businesses around the world are hunkering down for survival, the Italian mob is living a golden moment.
    Italy's various organized crime syndicates — often lumped together colloquially as Mafia Inc. — are gobbling up gas stations, muscling in on supermarket franchises, making loans to cash-starved businesses, taking over trattorias and acquiring buildings in swank neighborhoods in Rome and Milan, investigators say.
    These mobsters have lots of what is in short supply for many businesses these days — liquidity — as well as centuries-honed expertise in preying on the vulnerable, whose ranks are swelling in the current financial crisis.
 
    Capitalism is leading humanity and the planet to extinction. What we are experiencing is a global economic crisis of a systemic and structural nature, not another cyclic crisis.
 
Must see movie...
    The International is an American-German action thriller film starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. The film follows a pair that investigates corruption within a banking institution. Production began in Berlin in September 2007. The film opened the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival on February the 5th. The film was inspired by the Bank of Credit and Commerce International banking scandal.
    [WAR: I saw this on Friday. There are some great lines in this movie -- especially what the Italian PM candidate (Calvini) reveals about banks controling wars and the reulting debt.
 
 
Puh-leaze!...
    Mexico shut down schools, museums, libraries and state-run theatres across its crowded capital on Friday in hopes of containing a swine flu outbreak that has killed as many as 60 people and infected hundreds more. World health authorities worried openly that the strange new virus could become a global epidemic. Scientists said the virus combines genetic material from pigs, birds and humans in a way researchers have not seen before.
    "We are very, very concerned," said a CDC spokesman. "We have what appears to be a novel virus and it has spread from human to human. It's all hands on deck at the moment."
    [WAR: Viruses (dead cell debris) do not cause any diseases, muchless have the ability/intelligence to combine genetic material from different species!!
    It greatly concerns me the way this is already playing out: so fast, so panicky ... so ... scripted.  Is this a false-flag "outbreak"/attack excuse to further certain federal agendas (whether domestic or international)?]
 
Maybe even Mexican martial law?...
    Mexican President Calderon declared an emergency in his country's swine flu outbreak, giving him powers to order quarantines and suspend public events.
    Authorities have canceled school at all levels in Mexico City and the state of Mexico until further notice, and the government has shut most public and government activities in the area.
    The emergency decree, published today in the state gazette, gives the president authority to take more action.
    The first case was seen in Mexico on April 13. The outbreak coincided with the Barack Obama's trip to Mexico City on April 16.
    Obama was received at Mexico's anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported.
    The newspaper didn't confirm if Solis had swine flu or not.
 
    The World Health Organization said Saturday initial findings show a multi-strain swine flu is responding to Roche Holding AG's flu drug Tamiflu.
 
    Among the beneficiaries of the run on Tamiflu is Donald Rumsfeld, who was chairman of Gilead from 1997 to 2001 and owns at least $5 million of the stock.
    Recall that it was Rumsfeld, as chairman of G.D. Searle, who got the FDA to approve Aspartame.)
 
Remember, remember...
    The country was divided over the loss of freedom until a bioterrorist attack occurred, killing about 80,000 people.
    The fear generated by the attack allowed Norsefire to silence opposition.
    A cure for the virus was discovered soon afterwards by the Norsefire company, Viadoxin. The virus had been engineered by Norsefire as a plot to gain power.
 
    The latest bioterrorism attack by the New World Order is likely a beta test. Yes, it is a bioterrorism attack.
    It was a hybrid strain created from human, swine, and bird flu from North America, Europe, and Asia.
    It was created in a laboratory. This doesn't happen in nature.
 
From October 2007...
    It's now leaking out that there was more going on than met the eye at the Security and Prosperity Partnership Summit in Montebello, Canada in August.
    The 3 amigos, Bush, Harper and Calderon, finalized and released the "North American Plan for Avian & Pandemic Influenza."
    The "Plan" (that's what they call it, with a capital P) is to use the excuse of a major flu epidemic to shift powers from US legislatures to unelected, unaccountable "North American" bureaucrats.
    This idea was launched on September 14, 2005 when Bush announced the "International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza."
    This year's (2007) SPP summit in Canada morphed the Influenza Partnership into the North American Plan.
    Now we discover that the Plan is not only about combating a flu epidemic but is far-reaching in seeking control over US citizens and public policy during an epidemic.
 
    The Centers for Disease Control has had 3 major programs through which it can make diseases appear infectious and make everyone step in line to agree.
    One is that in the early 1950s they formed a special unit, an elite, semi-secret unit, that is now almost fully secret, called the Epidemic Intelligence Service, or EIS.
    New graduates of medical schools, or biological graduate schools, or perhaps dental schools, or a few other things, public health departments, are recruited upon graduation to take a several-week course, and then dispatched on 2-year active assignment, paid by the CDC, in various local and state health departments to become the eyes and ears of the CDC — an invisible intelligence network that watches for the tiniest clusters of disease, and, when the CDC deems appropriate, turns them into national emergencies.
    Even after those 2 years, every member of the EIS becomes part of a permanent reserve officer corps for the CDC that could be called up in case of national emergency or time of war, to serve as officers of their respective ranks, with actual emergency powers.
    Today many of these people, by sitting in foundations, major companies, the new media, Surgeon General's office, and other key positions politically, act as silent advocates for the CDC, echoing the CDC's viewpoint whenever it needs support.
 
Back to the future?!...
    At the present writing, October 1976, a group of medical opportunists have taken upon themselves the dictatorial authority to declare the threat of a sweeping epidemic of SWINE FLU which they said was similar to or related to the 1918 epidemic of Spanish influenza which wiped out 20,000,000 people world-wide.
    This declaration was supposed to scare all the people into their vaccination centers to be shot full of experimental vaccine poisons, while they, the promoters, raked in the profits.
    Not all of our Congressmen are hopeless. Some are actually on our side. Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is also a doctor and is able to see both sides of the swine flu question.
 
 
 
    A malicious software program known as Conficker that many feared would wreak havoc on April 1 is slowly being activated, weeks after being dismissed as a false alarm, security experts said.
    Conficker, also known as Downadup or Kido, is quietly turning thousands of personal computers into servers of e-mail spam and installing spyware, they said.
 
    When NASA came up with the idea of sending 7 astronauts to save the Hubble Space Telescope, it seemed to be a case of Mission: Impossible.
    So dangerous was the plan that it was scrapped.
    Four years on, the quest to rescue Hubble is back on, with the fighter pilot who flew Tom Cruise's aerial stunts in the film Top Gun at the controls.
    As Hubble marked its 19th anniversary, Captain Scott Altman and his crew began final preparations for a daring mission in which they will launch from Florida on the space shuttle Atlantis, chase and capture the telescope at 17,500 mph, then clamber on board to service it while drifting 304 miles above Earth.
    The risks are so great that Endeavour, the sister ship of Atlantis, is standing on a separate launch pad at Cape Canaveral ready for a rescue mission should one be needed — the first time in the 28-year history of the shuttle programme that NASA has taken such a precaution.
 
    How many church members does it take?
 
    The Moon and Mercury should become visible about 45 to 60 minutes after sunset.
    As dusk deepens into darkness, see if you can spot the dipper-shaped Pleaides cluster between the Moon and Mercury.
    [WAR: Last night I saw the crescent Moon, but it didn't have earthshine nor did it rule with the stars at night -- it just stayed in the Sun's glow (the previous day's light).
    While the ancient Babylonians would've considered it a new Moon, tonight will be the true new Moon -- making tomorrow the 1st day of the 1st month.]
